The Town of East Haven Social Services Department assists qualified East Haven residents with various local and State of Connecticut programs. Dept. partners with the Community Action Agency of Greater New Haven to assist qualified individuals with the annual State of Connecticut Energy Assistance Program, which runs during the months of September to May.
Department partners with the State of Connecticut Office of Policy and Management on the Rental Rebate Program, which is available during the months of May to October. Dept. provides information and referrals on additional state and federal assistance programs designed to help qualified individuals and families meet their basic needs. Through generosity of community organizations, local churches and individuals, Dept. can at times provide all East Haven residents in need of assistance with access to the local food pantry, clothing for children, back-to-school supplies, camp scholarships and holiday baskets.

Open to residents 60 and over for: information and support services; shopping and rides to the Senior Center; recreational day trips and week-long vacation trips; aerobics; line dancing and other forms of dancing; exercise programs; medical and other informational lectures and seminars; monthly movies; weekly bingo; daily lunch program (suggested donation: $3); Wellness Clinic twice a month with free screenings; AARP Safe Driving Classes monthly; help with forms and applications; card games; parties; monthly newsletter “Seniors on the Move.”

Offers adult outpatient mental health services. Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Master’s-level clinicians provide assessments, crisis intervention and ongoing counseling using individual, couple, family and group therapies. Psychiatrists provide diagnostic evaluations and prescribe psychotropic medications when appropriate. Fees charged, but many forms of insurance coverage accepted.

Supportive Services for Families and Caregivers
Social Services Department’s Elderly Outreach provides support for caregivers as part of its program.
Tax Relief and
Assessor’s Office in Town Hall administers and implements tax exemptions for eligible elderly, disabled, blind and veterans.
